- Check for Extra Rows: Before finalizing the background of your canvas, always contact your selected finisher to ask if extra waste rows (or binding stitches) are required. Different assembly styles (such as hidden seams for pillows versus knife-edge trims for ornaments) change how much unstitched or extra-stitched mesh the artisan needs.
- Leave Your Borders Raw: Finishers need at least 2 inches of completely blank, unstitched canvas border on all sides to properly clamp your piece onto their blocking boards. This can depend on type of project, such as a small mini ornament or charm may only need 1-1/2 inches.
- Bind Your Edges: Do not remove the tape or binding that came on your canvas. If removed run a quick zig-zag stitch on a sewing machine or place high-quality painter's tape along the raw outer mesh edges. This keeps the canvas from fraying during transit.
